Vice Pro Plus 2025 Review – Have I Bought the Wrong Ball?

Hi, Andy here from Golf Mad Dad, and today we’re diving into my review of the Vice Pro Plus 2025 golf ball. The big question: Did I make a mistake ordering five dozen of these?

Why the Vice Pro Plus?
I’ve used Vice balls before, but it’s been around four or five years since I last bought the Pro Plus. For 2025, I was torn between models, especially after using the Vice Pro (softer feel) at the end of 2024. But I finally went ahead and ordered five dozen Pro Plus balls to get the multi-buy discount—bringing the price down to around £2.50 per ball. Not bad for a premium four-piece golf ball.
Who’s It For?
The Vice Pro Plus is designed for higher swing speeds with a compression rating of 100. I’m still swinging around 117–125 mph on the course, so it made sense to go for this over the Vice Pro. That said, Vice claims it can still benefit players with slower swing speeds—especially if you value high greenside spin.
Visuals & Packaging
This year’s packaging is a little more toned down than previous lime green boxes—clean and modern. I chose the neon green ball for better visibility. For someone like me, with less-than-perfect eyesight, these stand out much better than traditional white balls in the fairway, rough, or sky.
The ball design includes the standard Vice logo and alignment line, and feels premium straight out of the box. While the color may divide opinions, I’m a big fan.
Tech Specs (Straight from Vice)
- Four-piece construction
- High-speed core for added distance off the tee
- Maximum greenside spin in the Vice lineup
- Firmer feel designed for controlled feedback at higher swing speeds
Initial Feel Testing
To test feel and performance, I put the Pro Plus head-to-head with the Vice Pro 2024 on the putting and chipping green. The difference was clear:
- Vice Pro Plus: Noticeably firmer, more clicky off the putter face, felt like it jumped off the club.
- Vice Pro: Quieter, softer, more of a “squish” into the face, which I personally enjoy.
That got me wondering: Should I have gone with the Vice Pro instead?
Chipping Comparison
Testing chip shots (including downwind conditions), the Vice Pro Plus did hold its own. Despite the firmer feel, it performed impressively around the green—showing strong spin control, even on softer landing shots. There were a few mishits, but the spin and check were there.
From my early data:
- 100-yard shots with my 54° wedge were spinning around 9,200 RPM.
- A few years ago, I was seeing 9,400–9,500, but that could be down to aging wedges rather than the ball itself.
Even compared to the Vice Pro, which spun slightly less at times, the Pro Plus started to justify itself.
Short Game & Spin Performance
- The Vice Pro Plus feels firmer but spins more consistently than the softer Vice Pro (which sometimes "rolled up the face" too much).
- 100-yard shot produced 9,200 RPM, confirming high spin potential.
- Around the green, the Vice Pro Plus shows more control and nip, especially compared to the standard Vice Pro.
🏖️ Bunker Durability Test
- 10 bunker shots tested durability.
- Only one noticeable scuff—caused by a bladed strike.
- Overall, excellent durability for a premium-level ball at a lower price point.
🔎 7-Iron Spin Concern & Re-Test
- Initial spin: 5,800–6,000 RPM, much lower than expected (~7,200 RPM in older tests).
- Suspected reasons:
- Toe strikes due to back tightness and desk job fatigue.
- Possible loft change after 7-iron repair.
- On-course testing showed better results, indicating spin issues may have been strike-related.
- Swing path change and a retest 1 week after the initial testing (back to fade/out-to-in) helped:
- Improved strike consistency.
- Spin increased to 7,150 RPM—possibly too much.
- Club head speed: 101 mph; Ball speed: 136 mph; Carry: 185 yards.
🚀 Driver Test
- Club head speed: 120 mph; Ball speed: 176 mph.
- Spin: 2,500 RPM; Carry distance: 320 yards.
- Using a Cobra RadSpeed driver (not fully fitted).
- Ball performed very well despite the club limitations.
✅ Final Verdict
- Vice Pro Plus 2025 is a great fit:
- High short-game spin, good driver performance.
- Durable and budget-friendly at £2.50 per ball (when buying 5 dozen).
- A smart alternative to £4.50 Pro V1s/TP5s, especially if you lose a few balls per round.
- I will continue using them through the season and on vlog and report back
